POSITION SUMMARY:

The Childcare Director oversees the daily operations and administration of the Child Development Center. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance with licensing and food program records, managing budgets, developing program plans, and ensuring the enrollment and retention of participants. This role requires strong leadership skills and flexibility for early morning and evening commitments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Childcare Operations

  • Oversees daily operations of childcare programs.
  • Achieves and maintains necessary accreditation.
  • Implements strategies to enhance program quality and enrollment.
  • Recommends staffing plans to meet required ratios.
  • Facilitates recruitment and orientation of children and families.
  • Conducts tours for prospective participants.
  • Advises families on necessary referrals.
  • Recommends educational materials and resources.
  • Engages with parents regarding policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with staff on addressing behavioral and learning challenges.
  • Evaluates activities for compliance with regulations.
  • Maintains food program records.
  • Coordinates medical care for children as needed.
  • Fulfills teaching duties when necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with all licensing regulations.

Community Relationships

  • Maintains positive relationships with licensing consultants.
  • Develops partnerships with local schools.
  • Builds community relationships within the facility and surrounding area.

Human Resource Management

  • Supervises childcare staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinates overall direction and evaluation of the center.
  • Implements policies and procedures for staff management.
  • Assists staff in identifying and addressing development needs.
  • Sets performance goals for team members.
  • Recommends salary adjustments.
  • Reviews payroll reports.
  • Fills staff vacancies in accordance with policies.
  • Supports recruitment of diverse staff.
  • Conducts interviews, training, and performance management.

Fiscal Management

  • Meets budgetary goals.
  • Monitors financial performance of program areas.
  • Operates within organizational policies.
  • Assists with fundraising initiatives.

Facility Management

  • Ensures cleanliness and presentation of all areas.
  • Assists with special events and facility management tasks.

Performs any additional functions necessary for the effective operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids.

COMPENSATION

$48,000 - $55,000 annually; Full Time; Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required; additional coursework in childcare administration; 3-5 years of experience in licensed childcare management; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Must have a passion for working with children aged infant to 6 years. Familiarity with NAEYC Code of Ethics is essential. Strong fiscal management skills required. Ability to engage with diverse populations is necessary. Proficiency in computer applications is expected.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:

  • Fingerprinting.
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance.
  • DHS clearance.
  • Negative T.B. test and proof of physical exam.
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • CPR Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days.

Minimal local travel within the state; occasional out-of-state travel may be required for training or conferences.
