Job Title: Electrical Protection and Control Systems Engineer

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Protection and Control Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Facilities and Operations Division, you will be responsible for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining electrical control systems for power distribution.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the technical expert in the performance of facilities engineering responsibilities involving electrical protection and control.
  • Perform system studies and provide protection requirements for design, review, and approvals of one-line, schematics, and logic diagrams.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to support operation and maintenance and substation automation and infrastructure projects.
  • Analyze fault and nuisance trips using historical data and make recommendations for mitigation.
  • Review and analyze daily relay operations to determine correct operation or misoperation in responding to an electrical system disturbance or anomalies.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum ten years of directly related experience in the field of high voltage substation design and protection relaying and equipment control.
  • Proficient in using ETAP, SKM, or other related software.
  • Knowledge of electrical SCADA protocols, such as DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850.
  • Familiarity with electrical power systems and substation automation.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience with Electrical Systems Network and Firewall Requirements and associated designs.
  • Development of advanced substation automation and associated logic schemes.
  • Substation HMI development.
  • Substation P&C setting and design experience.
