Job Title: Electrical Operations Associate Engineer

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking an Electrical Operations Associate Engineer to join our team in the Facilities and Operations Division.

Job Summary

The Electrical Operations Associate Engineer will be responsible for supporting electrical infrastructure systems and coordinating project activities with major stakeholders. This role will involve performing and coordinating facilities operations and engineering services, as well as working independently to develop solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support activities such as engineering analysis, design services, maintenance, repair, and upgrade efforts for building/equipment, and systems servicing complex facilities infrastructures.
  • Perform as operations and system engineering point of contact and technical expert for complex infrastructure systems engineering operations and services.
  • Conduct engineering and design services, develop and review engineering drawings, material lists, requisitions, job orders, engineering change requests, and other documents associated with engineering, building/equipment, and system maintenance.
  • Support preventive maintenance plan by coordinating and integrating utility usage/optimization (monitor usage, gather info, provide recommendations, follow-up, shutdown requirements).
  • Initiate and coordinate work requests, monitor completion; monitor and manage maintenance budget; coordinate and monitor preventative and predictive maintenance activities, service calls and ensure services completion.
  • Assess metrics, monitor and report related trends; perform condition assessments of technical systems and equipment, or troubleshooting (formulated by Facilities Services manager, Engineer or another group), analyze test results and data, report status and provide recommendations.
  • Coordinate, direct, inspect and approve contract work, third party vendors; identify, recommend and implement process modifications for increased productivity and/or cost reduction, manage related budget; coordinate maintenance logistics.
  • Conduct duties as a project coordinate, including organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation. Participate in meetings to keep area manager and technical staff apprised of project progress, status, quality and schedule.
  • Enforce compliance with health and safety policies and procedures based on regulatory guidance. Assist with developing training manuals and safety guidelines, and train technical staff.
  • Perform electrical system analysis and troubleshooting, diagnose problems and recommend solutions.
  • Conduct technical condition and reliability analysis of SLAC transmission tap, substation power infrastructure, electrical systems for mechanical, building loads, distribution for experimental equipment and utilization systems.
  • Develop and implement work planning and control documents to ensure efficient and safe operation of electrical systems.
  • Research and develop new initiatives and technology in Electrical Power Distribution to improve service and realize system wide opportunities.
  • Provide technical support to other team members, including technicians and electricians.
  • Clarify and resolve complex problems spanning multiple areas or technical fields. Support condition assessment programs. Manage assigned projects.
  • Develop and implement programs to ensure the reliability of electrical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Participate in the development of new electrical systems and upgrades to existing ones.
  • Participate in training and support guidance to other team members on electrical operations and safety procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans.
  • Collaborate with a diverse team and interface with customer representatives to plan and implement work.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in engineering or other appropriate technical area or related field with minimum seven years of experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience applying facilities engineering principles and building/equipment maintenance practices to perform technical services and support.
  • Ability to coordinate daily activities including work scheduling, quality assurance, program validation, and monitoring of maintenance activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with subcontractors/vendors and demonstrated ability to monitor project activities and ensure compliance with internal/external regulations.
  • Ability to write clear documentation, perform administrative duties involving facilities operations, engineering activities and projects.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Demonstrated competency in computer operation including Microsoft Office suites including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project Schedule, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and equipment, including breakers, switchgear, motor control centers, and transformers.
  • Knowledge of power system protection.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with engineering software related to assignments, IE: AutoCAD, ETAP, MATLAB, PS CAD & SEL Engineering software.
  • Proficiency with standard desktop applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate potential project risk components.

  • Valid CA driver¿s license.

The expected pay range for this position is $109,710 - $129,247 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
