Job Summary

The University of Pennsylvania seeks a highly skilled and experienced Lead Sterile Processing Technician to oversee the central sterile processing department. This key role is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective reprocessing of surgical instruments, maintaining compliance with quality assurance measures, and managing inventory.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operation and troubleshooting of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization equipment.
  • Support all departments with reprocessing needs.
  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect, and assemble a variety of complex surgical instruments and instrument sets.
  • Maintain compliance with quality assurance measures.
  • Responsible for inventory management, including orthopedic implants, general surgery inventory, and placing stock/special orders.
  • Enforce principles of infection control when indicated.
  • Assist in establishing and updating standards of supplies and materials used in the area of responsibility.
  • Prepare items for shipment to New Bolton Center for gas sterilization.
  • Instruct OR staff and Harcum students in instrument reprocessing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide information regarding best practices in sterile processing.
Requirements
  • An associate degree and at least two years of experience as a Central Processing Technician or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • CRCST certification is preferred but not required.
  • Additional certifications (CER, CIS, CHL) will be considered for higher-level advancement.
  • Ability to use Windows-based applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Office, etc.).
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, busy environment, both independently and with a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete assigned tasks.
  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills.
Working Conditions

Monday-Friday, 10 am-6 pm. Able to stand, be on your feet for long periods.

Pay and Benefits

$17.98 - $27.00 Hourly Rate. Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
