Job Summary

The University of Pennsylvania seeks a highly skilled and experienced Lead Sterile Processing Technician to oversee the central sterile processing department. This key role is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective processing of surgical instruments, maintaining compliance with quality assurance measures, and enforcing principles of infection control.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operation and troubleshooting of cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization equipment.
  • Support all departments with reprocessing needs.
  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect, and assemble a variety of complex surgical instruments and instrument sets.
  • Maintain compliance with quality assurance measures.
  • Responsible for inventory management, including orthopedic implants and general surgery inventory.
  • Enforce principles of infection control when indicated.
  • Assist in establishing and updating standards of supplies and materials used in the area of responsibility.
  • Prepare items for shipment to New Bolton Center for gas sterilization.
  • Instruct OR staff and Harcum students in instrument reprocessing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide information regarding best practices in sterile processing.
  • Interact closely with the surgery supervisor and surgery section chief.
Requirements
  • An associate degree and at least two years of experience as a Central Processing Technician or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • CRCST certification is preferred but not required.
  • Additional certifications (CER, CIS, CHL) will be considered for higher-level advancement.
  • Ability to use Windows-based applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Office, etc.).
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, busy environment, both independently and with a team.
  • Ability to multitask and complete assigned tasks.
  • Strong time management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of methods of aseptic technique, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization.
  • Comprehensive understanding of operation and troubleshooting of equipment used in reprocessing.

Pay Range

$27.00 Hourly Rate.
