Key Responsibilities
  • Pool Surveillance: Maintain active surveillance of the pool area, ensuring the safety of all individuals.
  • Emergency Response: Know and review all emergency procedures, responding promptly and professionally to emergency situations.
  • Pool Rules Enforcement: Enforce all pool rules and regulations, notifying staff of any inappropriate behavior.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Maintain accurate records, perform equipment checks, and ensure the availability of necessary equipment.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Collaborate with staff to maintain a positive and inclusive environment, actively participating in department and branch meetings.
Requirements
  • Certifications: Current Red Cross Lifeguard certification, including first aid, CPR, and AED.
  • Swimming Qualifications: Meet the YMCA's swimming qualifications, including a pre-course swim test.
  • Abuse Prevention Training: Complete abuse prevention training and demonstrate the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

The Aquatic Safety Specialist will work in a recreational environment, with regular exposure to water and potential hazards. The position requires sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions, including standing, walking, reaching, and remaining alert.
