Key Responsibilities
- Administer anesthetic agents and supportive care to patients undergoing surgical or medical interventions.
- Discuss planned anesthesia procedures with patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
- Identify and address potential complications associated with anesthetic care.
- Oversee the anesthetic management of patients throughout surgical procedures.
- Maintain anesthesia using appropriate agents and adjuncts.
- Deliver anesthesia through general, regional, and local techniques.
- Communicate relevant patient recovery information to recovery room personnel.
- Review and assess anesthesia documentation.
- Provide clinical mentorship and evaluation to anesthesia nursing students, interns, and residents.
- Perform additional duties as required.

To qualify, candidates must meet the educational and experiential criteria outlined below. Experience encompasses both paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work through recognized service programs and other organizations. All relevant experience will be considered, and resumes must clearly reflect applicable qualifications. If qualifying through education, transcripts will be necessary.
Basic Requirements for Clinical Nurse Specialist (Nurse Anesthetist):
Education: A graduate or higher-level degree from an accredited nursing program specializing in Nurse Anesthesia is required. This program must have been accredited by recognized bodies at the time of graduation.
Licensure: A current, unrestricted license as a professional nurse from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory is mandatory, along with successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination.
Professional Experience: A minimum of one year of professional nursing experience is required, specifically in administering anesthetics and monitoring patients receiving anesthesia care. This experience should align with the responsibilities typically associated with the next lower grade/level position in federal service.
Note: Substitution of education for experience is not permitted for this position.
Foreign Education: Candidates utilizing foreign education must provide evaluation credentials from a recognized organization that confirms equivalency to U.S. accredited programs.
