Position Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Deputy Chief Information Security Officer. This pivotal position will be responsible for leading and managing the information security operations within the Investments sector, ensuring that the security framework aligns with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), the Deputy Chief Information Security Officer will:
- Oversee the enterprise-wide information technology security initiatives and operations.
- Provide expert advice and support to the information security team in developing and implementing protective technologies that safeguard the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of IT systems and data.
- Collaborate with the CISO to analyze business needs and enhance security solutions to meet agency objectives.
- Direct counter-intelligence operations in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Ensure compliance with VITA standards and manage all outsourced contracts in collaboration with the CISO.
- Maintain a robust Security Operations Center that operates continuously to monitor and respond to security incidents.
- Lead business continuity and disaster recovery planning efforts, ensuring effective execution and updates as necessary.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- A minimum of ten years of experience in information technology security, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
- Extensive knowledge of information security tools, technologies, and methodologies.
- Experience with firewalls, intrusion detection systems, endpoint protection, and cloud computing.

- Ability to lead complex information security operations effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to work independently in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in developing detailed work plans and managing competing priorities.
This position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for a combination of onsite and remote work, while maintaining flexibility to meet organizational needs.
