Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our Anatomic Pathology team as a Customer Service Support Specialist. In this role, you will provide exceptional customer service to clinicians, students, referring veterinarians, and outside agencies, acting as the first point of contact for the Anatomic Pathology Service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and accession all samples and carcasses, ensuring compliance with record keeping and billing for hospital medical records.
  • Provide technical liaison support for pathology services, including purchasing and medical transcription support.
  • Assist with annual conferences and meetings, ensuring smooth operations and effective communication.
  • Work closely with the Anatomic Pathology Service manager to provide coverage between 8:00am and 5:00pm, with occasional overtime to meet operational needs.
Requirements
  • Experience working in a high-demand work environment with unpredictable workloads and skill to move between work areas as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with a diverse group of people, including faculty, clients, residents, students, and staff.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, medical terminology, and billing procedures in a veterinary medical environment.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including calculators, fax machines, document scanners, and computers.
  • Adherence to safe work practices and standard operating guidelines, with the ability to interpret policies and procedures to others.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of VMTH Anatomic Pathology policies, VMACS computer systems, and procedures affecting services, clients, and confidentiality of records and information.
  • Demonstrated experience providing purchasing support for multiple areas throughout a single department using UC Davis purchasing protocols/practices.
  • Working knowledge of technical and medical terminology, with the ability to accurately transcribe, understand, and recognize inconsistencies in definitions and use of clinical, medical, anatomical, physiological, laboratory, and pharmaceutical terms.
Working Conditions

This position requires regular exposure to dead animals, tissues, sick/injured animals, zoonotic diseases, foul odors, cleaning chemicals, and carcinogenic chemicals. The employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.

Benefits

This position is a limited appointment, with a starting salary of $23.94-$24.47/hour. The position is eligible for benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
