Outpatient Physical Therapy Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapist provides essential treatment to patients by assessing their functional capabilities and selecting suitable therapeutic interventions aimed at enhancing or restoring their physical abilities. This role involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to facilitate community education and contribute to the clinical training of affiliated students. There may be a requirement for coverage across multiple sites.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program with at least a Bachelor’s degree.
- Possession of a valid Connecticut Physical Therapy license.
COMPETENCIES:
- Strong proficiency in English communication skills, both oral and written.
- Competence in personal computer usage and familiarity with Windows-based applications essential for departmental operations.
- Basic keyboarding skills are preferred, along with familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet search capabilities.
- Access to reliable transportation is necessary for travel between various work locations as required to fulfill job responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competencies:
1. Conducts patient evaluations in accordance with departmental standards.
2. Modifies evaluations based on patient symptoms, activity levels, and medical conditions, establishing individualized, measurable goals for each patient.
3. Implements appropriate therapeutic exercises aimed at enhancing strength, endurance, coordination, and range of motion.
4. Applies physical modalities and manual therapy techniques to alleviate pain and achieve treatment goals.
5. Employs effective strategies to normalize motor function and facilitate learning.
6. Instructs patients and their families on home exercise programs and functional activities to promote independent living.
7. Evaluates when a patient has reached optimal benefit from therapy and recommends discharge when appropriate.
8. Maintains documentation in compliance with insurance regulations and adheres to departmental policies and procedures.
9. Promotes interdepartmental communication and collaborates with referring physicians regarding patient care.
10. Accurately completes and submits daily charge documentation.
11. Upholds the professional ethical standards established by the APTA and the facility.
12. Performs all tasks utilizing proper body mechanics and safety protocols to prevent injuries.
13. Supervises at least one affiliated student annually.
14. Engages in continuing education to enhance treatment methodologies.
15. Participates in departmental or community educational programs as documented.
