POSITION SUMMARY:

The Physical Therapist delivers treatment to patients by assessing their functional capabilities and selecting appropriate therapeutic interventions to enhance or restore their physical function. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team for community education and clinical training of students.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program with at least a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current licensure in Physical Therapy in Connecticut is required.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are essential.
  • Proficiency in personal computer applications, particularly Windows-based software necessary for departmental operations.
  • Basic keyboarding skills are preferred, along with familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and internet search capabilities.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary for travel between various work locations as required for the role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities:


1. Conduct thorough evaluations of patients in accordance with departmental standards.


2. Tailor evaluations based on individual patient symptoms, activity levels, and medical histories, establishing specific, measurable goals for treatment.


3. Implement appropriate therapeutic exercises to enhance strength, endurance, coordination, and range of motion.


4. Utilize physical modalities and manual therapy techniques to alleviate pain and achieve treatment objectives.


5. Apply effective strategies to normalize motor function and facilitate learning.


6. Instruct patients and their families on home exercise regimens and functional activities to promote independence.


7. Assess when patients have reached maximum therapeutic benefit and recommend discharge as appropriate.


8. Maintain documentation in compliance with insurance requirements and departmental policies.


9. Foster communication with other departments and referring physicians regarding patient care.


10. Ensure accurate and timely submission of daily charges.


11. Uphold the professional ethical standards set by the APTA and the facility.


12. Execute all duties with proper body mechanics to prevent injury.


13. Supervise at least one student in affiliation each year.


14. Engage in continuing education to enhance treatment methodologies.


15. Participate in departmental or community educational initiatives as documented.
