Key Responsibilities

Operations Management:
• Oversee the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, and evaluation of food service staff.
• Develop and implement job descriptions and responsibilities for various food service roles.
• Create work schedules to maintain adequate staffing levels for all shifts.
• Formulate and manage budgets to ensure a cost-effective operation.
• Supervise revenue-generating services.
• Utilize forecasts, inventory records, and food waste data to inform purchasing decisions.
• Advocate for enhancements in department layout and design.
• Collaborate effectively with clients, hospital staff, physicians, vendors, and other service providers.

Foodservice Management:
• Establish standards and procedures for food preparation.
• Engage in menu development, taking into account client preferences and dietary needs.
• Conduct meal inspections to ensure quality standards for appearance, taste, temperature, and service times are met.
• Manage the preparation and distribution of special dietary needs and supplemental feedings.
• Ensure food is prepared according to established schedules, menus, and recipes.

Food Safety:
• Ensure safe practices in receiving, storing, preparing, and serving food.
• Safeguard food throughout all stages of preparation and service, adhering to HACCP guidelines.
• Develop cleaning schedules and maintain equipment to uphold food safety standards.
• Ensure staff adhere to proper sanitation and safety protocols.

Nutrition and Dietary Management:
• Process and update diet orders and dietary changes.
• Complete necessary documentation in a timely manner.
• Assess client dietary needs and collaborate with registered dietitians to create appropriate meal plans.
• Review and document nutritional assessments and care plans to enhance client health and eating habits.
• Support registered dietitian functions as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Skills:
• Proven ability to motivate and supervise food service personnel.
• Proficient in computer applications.
• Strong mathematical and numerical skills; mechanical aptitude is advantageous.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated organizational capabilities.
• Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations affecting food service standards.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry over 50 lbs.
• Capacity to work in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
• Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
• Ability to engage positively with individuals of all ages.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in food service management.
  • Certification from the Association of Nutrition and Food Service Professionals is preferred.
  • Completion of a Certified Dietary Manager Exam is required.
