Patient Care Unit Coordinator

Schedule: Part Time 2, 30 hrs/pay period, 1:00pm-9:00pm, occasionally covering the 6:00am to 2:00pm shift
Weekend rotation: every other weekend, 9:00am-5:30pm
Holiday rotation: every other holiday
Position Summary:
Under the guidance of the registered nurse, this role involves a range of administrative tasks essential for the efficient operation of the patient care unit.
Position Responsibilities:
- Facilitates communication among healthcare professionals, patients, and visitors through verbal and written channels, including telecommunication systems.
- Ensures the confidentiality of patient data is maintained at all times.
- Processes and organizes patient/resident documentation as required.
- Maintains accurate identification of patient/resident records.
- Documents clinical information in compliance with established protocols.
- Prepares and updates patient/resident charts systematically.
- Reviews charts daily for missing histories and operative summaries, notifying the appropriate healthcare team member for rectification.
- Removes temporary reports from charts once permanent documentation is available.
- Creates specialized forms as necessary.
- Communicates updates regarding patient admissions, discharges, and transfers via email.
- Assists in the receipt, distribution, and organization of supplies delivered to the unit, and prepares maintenance requisitions and reports.
- Maintains an accurate record of time and work schedules.
- Handles requests for non-medical services as required.
- Responsible for initiating orders in the system for laboratory tests and imaging services.
- Ensures a professional and organized environment at the nursing station to support the healthcare team amidst high-pressure situations.
- Manages telephone communications and directs calls or relays messages appropriately.
- Guides visitors as necessary.
- Assists with patient admissions, transfers, room assignments, and other clerical tasks as needed.
- Maintains a reliable attendance record.
- Adheres to established protocols and procedures.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing or administrator.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Skills:
Proficient typing and computer skills.
Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Exceptional organizational skills.
