Position Overview

The New Vecinos Program plays a crucial role in our Community Care initiatives. New Life Centers is dedicated to empowering new residents to navigate their journey towards self-sufficiency while leveraging the diverse and impactful services offered by our partners, including the Illinois Department of Human Services. Our organization provides essential services focused on holistic wellness and fostering community connections, creating a supportive network for our new neighbors in the Chicagoland area.

Role Summary

The Community Engagement Specialist is a full-time, temporary position requiring 40 hours per week. This role is non-exempt and eligible for benefits. The Specialist will oversee hospitality services at partner locations where new residents are temporarily accommodated. Responsibilities include assisting residents with guidance and information regarding their daily needs and facilitating connections with case managers for additional support. This position necessitates local travel (reimbursable) and access to a vehicle, with a rotating schedule that may include weekends. Compensation will be based on experience. This role is conducted in-person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide residents with guidance and information to address their daily needs.
  • Facilitate connections with case managers who can offer further assistance to residents.
  • Support communication between Community Care partners and New Life Centers at resident housing locations.
  • Participate in informational sessions to clarify expectations, roles, and responsibilities for participants and staff as needed.
  • Ensure residents have access to necessary services by collaborating with the Community Support Staff team to provide information, updates, and guidance.
  • Maintain regular communication with the direct team and Supervisor regarding program updates, needs, and challenges.
  • Work with the team to ensure a safe environment for residents by providing awareness, feedback, updates, and reporting any potential hazards.
  • Document activities and progress as necessary for consistent program evaluation and timely reporting.
  • Engage in performance plans to enhance personal development and training for direct reports and team members.
  • Supervision includes regular on-site visits, check-ins, and planning meetings with the Supervisor.
  • Document all participant interactions and services provided, assisting the data and development teams with data collection and reporting.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service and hospitality to new residents.
  • Maintain accuracy in budget and spending plans as applicable.
  • Participate in required surveys, evaluations, and audits.
  • Exemplify the values of New Life Centers.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Communicate regularly with the Supervisor and team to ensure goal achievement and address program, staff, and resident needs.
  • Maintain healthy boundaries and self-care practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Must become a Certified Mandated Reporter; training will be provided.
  • Successful completion of a background check is required, with no pending cases.
  • Must pass a Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System background check.
  • Must pass a National Sex Offender Registry background check.
  • Access to a working phone and phone number is required.
  • One year of experience in the human services field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural competency.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
  • Willingness to be trained and proficiently use relevant databases and information tracking systems.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of participant information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • A valid Illinois driver's license, insurance, a good driving record, and access to a vehicle are necessary, subject to a driving background check.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred but not mandatory.
