Job Description

As a Jr. Service Engineer at Shapeways, you will play a critical role in maintaining, serving, and operating our most crucial equipment, the printers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing machine tasks related to daily production, including cleaning high-tech machinery and homogenizing powder for print runs.
  • Service and troubleshooting the machines, setting and executing periodic maintenance.
  • Own machine uptime to reduce equipment failure, identify root causes, create and implement preventative maintenance best practices and improvements to equipment.
  • Identifying, analyzing, scoping, and implementing improvement projects.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation to enable effective knowledge transfer throughout the company.
  • Maintaining and optimizing spare part stock.
  • Quality control execution and improvement (dimensional accuracy, strength testing).
  • Supporting building, training, and coordinating the team to take full ownership of the uptime and quality of the machines.
  • Analyzing and solving complex problems and providing detailed reports to support presentations and/or follow-up.
  • Providing detailed support on the acquisition of new capital equipment expenses process.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with the printer OEMs & Service Technician.

Requirements:

  • Vocational or Bachelor's degree in an applicable field (e.g., engineering, mechatronics) preferred.
  • 2+ years of work experience in technical support, troubleshooting, and maintaining equipment, like CNCs and Laser Cutters but preferably, 3D printers.
  • Understanding KPI-driven performance and how to prioritize based on the demands of on-time delivery.
  • Being a constructive team player with good social & communication skills.
  • Being mechanical-minded and able to understand the mechanics of an industrial 3D printer.
  • Having an appetite for learning, teaching, and developing in the manufacturing space.
  • Love to drive change and continuous improvement by taking the initiative and helping others.
  • Being always learning: believing that a job where you're constantly learning is the best kind of job and you're ok with asking for help.
  • Keeping overview easily and work meticulously and organized.
