Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Real-Time Controls Software Engineer to join our team at the University of Arizona's Large Binocular Telescope Observatory. As a key member of our software development team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software systems that control the telescope's enclosure, mount, rotators, and primary mirrors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop software packages for the telescope control sub-systems, including interfaces with low-level devices and motion controllers.
  • Monitor sub-systems health, faults, and performance, and diagnose and address operational issues.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and contribute new designs and developments to leverage new technology and improve reliability.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline, or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional-level experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with VxWorks, VME (PowerPC), DSP (Bittware), PLC interfaces, micro-controllers (PIC, 8051), Linux, GUI (Qt), and git.
