Pharmaceutical Care Technician

The Pharmaceutical Care Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the preparation of medications under the close guidance of a licensed Pharmacist. This position is essential in maintaining accurate records and managing inventory effectively.
Key Responsibilities1. Initiates the patient intake process by creating, updating, and maintaining patient records, including demographics, allergies, medication history, and insurance details in the pharmacy software system, while integrating with electronic medical record platforms.
2. Delivers exceptional patient-focused customer service through various communication channels, including in-person, telephone, and written correspondence.
3. Collaborates with patients and healthcare professionals to ensure timely prescription fulfillment, address patient-specific concerns, and coordinate medication deliveries as necessary.
4. Refers escalated issues and clinical inquiries regarding prescriptions and drug information to the licensed Pharmacist.
5. Navigates insurance plans and manages billing processes for third-party payors, utilizing knowledge of overrides, codes, and manual billing to resolve payment rejections.
6. Operates the point-of-sale cash register system in accordance with established policies, ensuring a positive customer experience.
7. Assists the licensed Pharmacist with the non-clinical aspects of medication preparation, including accurate filling, packing, labeling, and stocking of medications as per established guidelines.
8. Adheres to FDA regulations and manufacturer restrictions on specific medications, including Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) programs and limited distribution drug requirements.
9. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of standards set by specialty accrediting bodies and complies with annual specialty competencies related to disease state management.
10. Packages patient orders and coordinates with delivery services to ensure timely receipt of prescriptions.
11. Aids the licensed Pharmacist in maintaining necessary records and reports.
12. Supports inventory management by monitoring stock levels and expiration dates, ensuring proper rotation and storage of medications.
13. Performs additional related duties as required. All responsibilities outlined are considered essential functions of the role.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in New York State is mandatory.
Pharmacy Technician Certification is required, along with any specialized certifications as necessary.
1-3 years of relevant experience is essential.
