Northwell Health is seeking a skilled Animal Care Technician to join our team. As an Animal Care Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of laboratory animals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide sanitization and sterilization of caging and associated equipment required for laboratory animal housing and care.
- Ensure the provision of clean housing, access to food and environmental enrichment of the animals.
- Identify and report injured and ill animals, and respond as essential personnel for declared disasters.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment, and decontaminate and sterilize required facility items.
- Receive, house/store, and transport animals, supplies, feed, and bedding, and log information pertinent to cage and equipment to ensure proper maintenance.
- Identify and notify veterinary staff of ill or injured animals, and provide research-specific specialized diets, treated water, and specialized housing arrangements when needed.
- Perform census of animals and cages, and record related information as required by approved procedures.
- Clean work areas, wash and wax flooring, walls, ceiling, and lighting fixtures in the animal holding rooms, cage wash areas, and associated corridors.
- Maintain inventory of stock entering and leaving the facility.
- Log information pertinent to autoclaves to ensure sanitation and sterilization processes are maintained.
- Assess the condition of caging equipment, and make recommendations for equipment replacement or repair.
- Sanitize caging and related equipment with automated cage washing equipment and sterilizers.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Current Lab Animal Technician (AALAS) Certification in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
- 1-3 years of relevant experience required.
The salary range for this position is $36,980-$55,690/year. Northwell Health is an equal employment opportunity employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates.
