The Cook at Accel at Willow Bend is responsible for preparing meals according to established menus and specifications, adhering to facility protocols, and complying with dietary and sanitary regulations. This role includes following recipes, ensuring proper food storage, supervising meal service by staff, and maintaining cleanliness in work areas. It is essential to ensure that all residents receive their meals while adhering to fire and safety practices.

Key Responsibilities

Safe Food Handling

  • Understand and adhere to guidelines for food handling and storage, including raw and prepared foods.
  • Conduct daily reviews of food safety protocols in the absence of the Nutrition Services Manager.
  • Monitor and document temperatures of hot and cold foods and storage areas, addressing any discrepancies with a supervisor.
  • Properly dispose of expired or contaminated food items.
  • Implement and enforce handwashing, glove usage, and hair restraint protocols.
  • Follow established infection control and safety policies while using required protective gear.

Food Preparation

  • Enforce methods to prevent cross-contamination during food preparation.
  • Prepare meals using standardized recipes and in the specified quantities according to production worksheets and dietary requirements.
  • Utilize available tools to ensure timely meal production and portion control, including proper thawing and preparation of ingredients.
  • Ensure that meals are served within designated hours while maintaining quality, temperature, and presentation.

General Food Service Duties

  • Serve meals according to facility guidelines, ensuring correct portion sizes and presentation.
  • Perform routine cleaning of the kitchen and equipment following sanitation procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the serving line and work areas after each use.
  • Organize and clean food storage areas.
  • Store, chill, and reheat leftovers appropriately for future use.
  • Utilize the three-compartment sink correctly and manage the cleaning of cooking utensils.
  • Assist other staff members as needed to ensure efficient meal production and service.
  • Oversee kitchen closing procedures in accordance with policies and regulations.
  • In the absence of the Nutrition Services Manager, ensure departmental compliance and maintain communication with relevant personnel.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: One year of experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, hospital, or similar setting.
  • Food handlers' card or Food Safety Certification as required by local regulations.
  • Fundamental understanding of sanitation, cleanliness, and personal hygiene practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, residents, family members, and the public.
  • Regular, predictable, and dependable attendance is essential.
