Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team as a School Nurse. The successful candidate will provide and coordinate the Health Services program in the assigned school, ensuring the health and well-being of students.

Responsibilities
  • Provide emergency care for ill or injured students, using first aid procedures and obtaining necessary assistance when required.
  • Coordinate with Special Education to provide services to students with special needs.
  • Provide one-on-one care to students as assigned by the supervising RN, releasing the school RN from duties as the school nurse.
  • Carry out or assist with special procedures, such as catheterization, tube feeding, etc., for students with medical problems.
  • Conduct health appraisals, including height, weight, vision, hearing, spinal, and acanthosis nigricans screenings, and other health assessments as deemed necessary.
  • Provide referrals and follow-up for identified health problems to attain optimum health for each student.
  • Maintain accurate and complete health records on each student, including immunization records, health history, screening results, referral, and follow-up information.
  • Adhere to the Texas immunization law, securing records on each student and updating as necessary on electronic medical records.
  • Control communicable diseases, excluding and re-admitting students as necessary, and notify the health department of all reportable diseases.
  • Dispense medication according to state law and district policy.
  • Promote health education in the clinic, classroom, and with teachers by providing support and resources to meet curriculum needs.
  • Make home visits as part of the assessment and follow-through process.
  • Provide health counseling for students with health problems, cooperating with principals, teachers, counselors, family physicians, and other agencies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited university preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners to practice nursing.
  • Two or more years of nursing experience preferred.
Working Conditions

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
