School Nurse Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our team at Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. As a School Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing health services to students, promoting health education, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being of our students.
Responsibilities- Provide emergency care for ill or injured students, using first aid procedures, and obtaining necessary assistance in cases of serious trauma and/or illness.
- Coordinate with Special Education to provide services to students with special needs, including one-on-one care as needed.
- Provide daily care of students with medical problems in the school setting, including carrying out or assisting with special procedures, such as catheterization, tube feeding, etc.
- Conduct health appraisals, including height, weight, vision, hearing, spinal, acanthosis nigricans screenings, and other health assessments as deemed necessary.
- Refer and follow-up on identified health problems to attain optimum health for each student.
- Maintain accurate and complete health records on each student, including immunization records, health history, screening results, referral, and follow-up information.
- Adhere to the Texas immunization law, securing records on each student and updating as necessary on electronic medical records.
- Control communicable diseases, notifying the health department of all reportable diseases.
- Dispense medication according to state law and district policy.
- Promote health education in the clinic, classroom, and with teachers by providing support and resources to meet curriculum needs.
- Make home visits as part of the assessment and follow-through process.
- Provide health counseling for students with health problems, cooperating with principals, teachers, counselors, family physicians, and other agencies.
- Active support of the philosophy of the school district and the total school program.
- Effective communication with the principal in interpreting and implementing policies, laws, and procedures of the health services program.
- Provide faculty and other appropriate personnel with information and assistance with classroom management of students with medical conditions.
- Compile monthly health services reports and annual reports of all screening results and immunizations.
- Cooperate effectively with all student service departments, faculty, and parents to meet the needs of students.
- Continuously pursue educational studies to maintain a professional level of performance.
- Cooperate with other staff members in child abuse and drug abuse cases, assisting with the documentation and referral process.
- Maintain certification in BLS Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and AED as required by the American Heart Association.
- Attend all health services staff meetings and other meetings required of staff members in the assigned school.
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
