Position Overview

The Pat Summitt Clinic Cognitive Neurophysiology Lab is at the forefront of innovative research focusing on cognitive aging, Alzheimer's disease, and related dementias. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge studies aimed at understanding the complex relationships between brain structure, function, cognition, and behavior.

Research Objectives

Our lab has successfully enrolled over 75 participants in a longitudinal study designed to explore the intricate dynamics of cognitive health in both healthy individuals and those experiencing dementia. Utilizing advanced methodologies such as EEG, MRI, functional MRI, and PET imaging, we aim to identify disease mechanisms and develop new diagnostic tools for early detection and treatment monitoring.

Fellowship Purpose

The Postdoctoral Fellow will play a crucial role in our ongoing research initiatives, conducting data analysis and contributing fresh insights to our projects. This fellowship is designed to facilitate the transition from Ph.D. training to an independent research career, providing opportunities for collaboration and leadership within the lab.

Key Responsibilities

  • Address research challenges and develop analytical models as needed.
  • Create experimental stimuli and procedures while conducting comprehensive data analysis.
  • Contribute to larger research projects under the guidance of senior researchers.
  • Document research activities meticulously, adhering to data management protocols.
  • Analyze and interpret research findings for academic review.
  • Evaluate existing methodologies and propose enhancements to improve research quality.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, reports, and manuscripts for publication and presentation.
  • Conduct experiments with adult human subjects, ensuring compliance with ethical standards.
  • Manage and protect sensitive data effectively.
  • Lead and mentor undergraduate researchers, providing training in lab procedures.
  • Facilitate subject recruitment and maintain community relations.
  • Support human subject protocol requirements and data management systems.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Neuroscience or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience in EEG/ERP, neuroimaging, and biomarkers relevant to Alzheimer's disease.
  • Prior research experience with adult human subjects in clinical or academic settings.
  • Proficiency in standard software applications and familiarity with MATLAB.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with ethics board correspondence is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and mentor others.
