Research Associate - Center for Agricultural Synthetic Biology
A full-time research associate opportunity is available within the laboratory of Dr. Scott Lenaghan at the Center for Agricultural Synthetic Biology. This position is funded through grants, and ongoing employment is dependent on continued funding. The selected researcher will contribute to the enhancement of plant species via genetic modification to tackle pressing agricultural and environmental challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Conduct PCR, isolate plasmid DNA, perform restriction enzyme digestions, and execute gel extractions.
2. Carry out yeast and plant transformation processes.
3. Prepare media and buffers, and maintain greenhouse environments.
4. Develop experimental designs and assist in establishing standardized research protocols.
5. Ensure data quality assurance throughout research activities.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related discipline is required, along with three years of relevant laboratory experience. A Master's degree in a related field is preferred. Candidates with a strong publication record, relevant experience, and a high level of motivation will be prioritized.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively within a highly interdisciplinary team environment. Candidates must be prepared to work cooperatively in a team setting.
