Job Title: Medical Interpreter

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Medical Interpreter to join our team at Good Samaritan Medical Center. As a Medical Interpreter, you will play a vital role in ensuring that patients and staff members can communicate effectively across language barriers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relay medical information between speakers of two different languages in consecutive, simultaneous, or sight translation modes.
  • Support the operations of the department by interpreting for patients and staff members who are Limited English Proficient (LEP), Deaf, or hard of hearing.
  • Facilitate successful delivery of services to linguistically diverse consumers by explaining hospital resources, office protocols, and limitations to clinicians and patients.
  • Perform duties in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation, adhering to hospital policies on customer relations and hospitality.
  • Support office operations by answering the phone, taking requests, and performing data entry, among other tasks.

Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and one or more foreign languages, both oral and written.
  • Ability to accurately work in consecutive mode and sight translate into and from working language(s).
  • High level of customer service and a positive approach.
  • Familiarity and ability to work with diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds.
  • General knowledge of cultural backgrounds of patients to be served.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proof of medical interpreter training - minimum of 40 hours.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
