Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Scientist to join our team at Ahtna. The successful candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, geology, biology, chemistry, or engineering, and will be responsible for conducting site investigations and assessments, collecting and interpreting environmental sampling data, and preparing technical plans and reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site investigations and assessments following Federal and State regulatory guidelines
  • Collect and interpret environmental sampling data
  • Prepare technical plans and reports, including NEPA-specific documents
  • Assist with NEPA program compliance and track environmental review actions
  • Adhere to schedule and financial objectives
  • Identify and evaluate corrective actions for individual or groups of sites
  • Enhance company reputation by accepting ownership for team performance
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance to project staff
  • Review and document environmental permits, licenses, and other requirements
  • Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites
  • Record information on specified forms and reports
  • Prepare charts, graphs, or figures from sample data
  • Provide client assistance to program and project managers
  • Maintain technical expertise and lead teams performing project tasks
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related field
  • Three or more years of relevant working experience
  • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases
  • Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER or 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher
  • CPR/1st Aid Certified
  • Experience working on projects with Federal clients
  • Forklift Certification
  • Professional registration such as PMP, PE, CIH, CSP
  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment, both indoors and outdoors, and will be required to lift up to 50 pounds and work in confined spaces. The work schedule will be Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 5:00, with occasional travel required.
