POSITION SUMMARY: The Public Policy Manager will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing policy initiatives that align with the Los Angeles Urban League's objectives at various governmental levels. This position demands a comprehensive understanding of legislative frameworks, exceptional analytical capabilities, and the aptitude to cultivate robust relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, industry representatives, and community organizations. This role is intended for local candidates, as it will be based onsite in our Los Angeles office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Policy Formulation: Conduct thorough research and analysis to establish policy stances on issues pertinent to the organization's mission.
  • Advocacy Efforts: Promote the organization's policy positions through engagement with legislators, regulatory bodies, and other influential entities.
  • Legislative Oversight: Track and assess legislative and regulatory changes that may affect the organization, providing timely insights to senior leadership.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Develop and sustain connections with government officials, industry groups, non-profits, and other relevant parties.
  • Coalition Development: Engage in and/or lead collaborative efforts with other organizations to further common policy objectives.
  • Effective Communication: Craft and present clear, compelling written and verbal communications, including policy briefs and public statements.
  • Strategic Direction: Design and implement strategic plans to fulfill policy goals and support the organization's long-term vision.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Work in partnership with various departments to ensure policy initiatives align with business objectives.
  • Event Coordination: Organize and participate in events such as meetings and conferences to advance the organization's policy agenda.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, or a related discipline; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in public policy, government relations, or a similar field.
  • Extensive knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and executing policy strategies.
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with a talent for engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Capacity to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with policy analysis tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Workforce Development, Education, and Small Business policy areas.
  • An established network of contacts within government and industry.
  • Prior experience in a managerial or leadership capacity.
  • Bilingual skills are advantageous.
