Job Overview

Position: Construction Manager

Essential Requirement: Must possess K-12 California school construction experience.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the construction phase for K-12 educational facility projects, including mobilization, execution, and project closeout.
  • Plan, organize, and report on construction management activities and progress to senior management.
  • Collaborate with public agencies to ensure compliance during off-site construction activities.
  • Manage project budgets and schedules to align with the District's quality standards.
  • Conduct daily contract administration, assisting Senior Project Managers with bid analysis and pre-construction meetings.
  • Review initial construction schedules, submittals, and respond to contractor inquiries effectively.
  • Lead project teams and contractors in ensuring that directives are communicated and that the project scope adheres to plans, specifications, and budget constraints.
  • Evaluate contractor submittals to confirm adherence to specification requirements.
  • Maintain a log of contractor requests for clarification and ensure timely responses.
  • Negotiate with contractors to establish fair costs for change orders and assess their impact on the project.
  • Review payment applications and manage the fiscal resources of the project.
  • Coordinate the delivery of related fixtures, furniture, and equipment for the District.
  • Perform additional construction management duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of experience in Construction Management for Commercial and/or Public Facilities, with a focus on Educational Facility Construction.
  • 2-5 years of experience with the Division of the State Architect (DSA).
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management, or a related field. Alternatively, 4 years of additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM).
  • Familiarity with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified projects and/or the Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS).
  • Knowledge of DSA construction/design processes.
  • Possession of a Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential from the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI).

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with education and experience, with a range of $115K-$170K.
