Research Project Manager

The One Health Microbiome Center at Penn State's Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences is seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Project Manager to join their team. As a key member of the Center's leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing scientific programs, grants, and meetings, as well as coordinating communications and social media efforts.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in natural sciences, physical sciences, engineering, or a microbiome-related field, with a minimum of 1+ years of experience for the Intermediate Professional level and 3+ years for Advanced Professional level. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are essential, as well as the ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
The Research Project Manager will work closely with the Center's Director and a large, diverse team of faculty, scientists, trainees, and administrators to develop and execute the Center's education, research, and business operations. This is a full-time position that will commence in Spring 2025.
Responsibilities- Manage scientific programs, including complex training grants for graduate students, pilot grant programs, research fellowships, training workshops, symposia, and seminar series.
- Lead the writing and preparation of Center-related reports, publications, and grant applications in collaboration with the Center leadership.
- Manage Center-related grant and operational budgets in collaboration with the Huck Institutes.
- Oversee communication of Center outcomes to the public via website, social media, emails, and other promotional materials.
- Oversee outreach activities, networking events, symposia, education, and art of Center-related projects.
A minimum of a Master's degree or a PhD from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience in natural sciences, physical sciences, engineering, or a microbiome-related field.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, demonstrated ability for communicating effectively with various stakeholders.
Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
Self-motivated and able to work independently on multiple projects concurrently.
Consistent demonstration of initiative, able to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities.
Professional experience in running structured, multi-disciplinary programs and/or in research administration is preferred.
Knowledge of standard software packages is preferred.
