Position Overview: Advocate Aurora Health is in search of a dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our team in a dynamic healthcare environment.

This role encompasses a variety of tasks, with approximately 60% focused on gastrointestinal (GI) procedures, including upper and lower endoscopies, as well as 40% on pain management procedures such as local injections and neurostimulator implants.

Essential Duties:

  • Assist in patient care activities under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians, including intraprocedural support and specimen management.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to uphold safety protocols, including the timeout process and equipment traceability.
  • Prepare and maintain procedure rooms and necessary equipment, ensuring all instruments are sterile and ready for use.
  • Perform high-level disinfection and reprocessing of surgical instruments and scopes, adhering to established safety standards.
  • Document procedures and manage patient records using relevant information systems.
  • Maintain inventory levels by monitoring supply needs and assisting with clerical tasks such as data entry and scheduling.
  • Assist in patient positioning and transport, utilizing proper lifting techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding the developmental needs of patients.

Licensure and Certification:

  • GI Technical Specialist (GTS) certification is required within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within 6 months unless exempted by department leadership.

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is preferred.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a patient care role is typically required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of aseptic techniques and equipment used in surgical settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry weights as required by the job.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the shift is necessary.
