Job Summary

Rutland Regional Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing clinical support to our ophthalmologists and ensuring the highest level of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain and maintain accurate patient medical records
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
  • Perform preliminary eye function testing and measurements
  • Explain medication and procedures to patients
  • Sterilize and clean equipment
  • Maintain examination rooms and supplies
  • Perform administrative duties related to patient care
Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Coursework in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology/Biology or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant program or other Health Science degree program preferred
  • Graduate of an Ophthalmic Assistant academic degree program
  • 1 year experience in a physician practice or outpatient clinic setting involving patient contact
  • 1 year of working under the direction of an Ophthalmologist in preparation of meeting the requirements for certification
Preferred Qualifications
  • BLS Certification through American Heart Association
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within 18 months of hire
  • Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO)
