Position Overview:
The Senior Materials Testing Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive field and laboratory evaluations of construction materials, including but not limited to soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel.

Effective communication with project managers, engineering teams, client representatives, and contractors is essential to ensure clarity regarding project specifications and testing protocols.

This role involves the transportation of material samples along with the necessary documentation to the laboratory for detailed analysis.

Data collection, preparation, and submission of findings in both written and digital formats are required for timely reporting to the Project Manager.

Maintaining cleanliness and functionality of equipment, vehicles, and workspaces is crucial. The Specialist may also assist in scheduling and coordinating technician assignments to various project sites while adhering to stringent safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
Conducts testing, observation, and inspection as per established protocols and training. Ensures thorough documentation of findings and results. Performs preliminary data analysis to confirm accuracy prior to reporting to the Project Manager.

Possesses expertise in multiple areas of field and laboratory testing, with the potential to mentor junior technicians. May oversee the activities of other engineering technicians during larger projects.

Responsible for the upkeep and calibration of testing equipment. Follows all safety guidelines and project-specific safety requirements. Engages in pre-task planning to ensure efficient execution of work. Reports any safety concerns to management and maintains quality assurance standards across all projects.

Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.

Proficiency in using laptops and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary. ACI certification in one or more areas, including:

Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, and certification in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.

Additional certifications such as Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or ASNT Level II in nondestructive testing services are preferred.

Successful completion of all relevant internal safety certifications and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record are required.

Preferred Certifications:

NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in categories such as Asphalt, Concrete, and Soils.

NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical fields, including Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, and Generalist. ICC certification in multiple categories such as Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, and Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, as well as Structural Steel certifications in Bolting and Welding.

American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and ASNT Level II certification in various testing methods, including Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) are also advantageous.

Other relevant certifications requiring experience and written examinations may be considered based on the discretion of the Terracon Department Manager.
