Job Summary

Battelle Memorial Institute is seeking a highly skilled Materials Scientist to join our Advanced Materials and Energetics Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting laboratory experimentation, data compilation and analysis, and literature searches under the guidance of a senior scientist.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct background research and experiments to gather data and information.
  • Compile and analyze design and test data to prepare product, process, or materials specifications.
  • Develop, construct, and execute laboratory experiments to test hypotheses and gather data.
  • Assist in the interpretation of results and composing sections of technical reports.
  • Complete assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Conduct basic engineering analysis of data collected and perform structured work assignments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Candidates may be requested to submit to a background check for obtaining clearances for classified government projects.
  • Good laboratory and documentation skills.
  • Ability to summarize results in spreadsheets, written reports, and presentation formats.
  • Experience with conducting laboratory work as well as searching technical literature is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in research and development in a materials science, chemistry, or chemical engineering setting.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, and follow instructions.
  • Experience in engineering model development.
  • Experience in working with structured databases for data archiving.
  • Experience in computer-aided design software.
  • Experience using computer programming to analyze complex data sets.
