Library Support Specialist

This role is designated for the Library within the Air Education and Training Command. It is a flexible position with variable hours, potentially reaching up to 40 hours per week, based on operational needs. Employees in this flexible role are not entitled to benefits.
Key Responsibilities
The primary objective of this position is to deliver general administrative support and assist management in executing programs, promotional activities, and marketing initiatives for library services.
- Organize and shelve books, periodicals, and other library resources, ensuring accurate arrangement.
- Evaluate the library collection to maintain proper order of materials in designated sections.
- Inspect the condition of books in assigned areas, removing outdated or damaged items for librarian review, and perform minor repairs as necessary.
- Process new, restored, and reconditioned library materials for circulation and reference in accordance with established protocols.
- Support the annual inventory of the library collection.
Circulation Duties
Assist with both automated and manual circulation processes, including:
- Registering and removing patrons from the system.
- Managing the check-out and return of library materials.
- Handling requests for holds and interlibrary loans, ensuring fulfillment of these requests.
Provide assistance with overdue materials and clarify library policies to patrons, ensuring compliance with library regulations.
User Assistance
Help patrons locate books and information using the Integrated Library System (ILS), online databases, and other digital resources, directing complex inquiries to the lead technician or librarian as needed.
Administrative Support
Perform routine clerical tasks, such as:
- Answering phone calls and taking messages.
- Referring visitors to the appropriate staff members.
Assist in maintaining and updating library statistics and filing systems, as well as handling office account responsibilities when required.
Technical Skills
Utilize various computer applications and word processing software to prepare, email, and print a range of documents, including letters, reports, and memos.
Procurement Assistance
Support the library's procurement and acquisition processes by following established guidelines.
Additional Duties
Participate in the implementation of programs, promotional activities, and marketing strategies for library services. Perform other related tasks as assigned.
