We are seeking a qualified Packaging Process Engineer to contribute to our advanced manufacturing operations. This role is pivotal in overseeing the design, development, and engineering processes for packaging across various product lines, ensuring alignment with customer expectations.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field is essential.
- A minimum of three to five years of experience in consumer product packaging development and design is required.
- Proficient in CAD and packaging design software such as ArtiosCAD, along with MS Office Suite, Excel, Access, Project, and ERP Systems.
Experience in high-speed manufacturing packaging automation is advantageous, including training, troubleshooting, and process optimization. A comprehensive understanding of Packaging Engineering is necessary, covering various manufacturing techniques including flexible, corrugated, and folding carton production, as well as plastics thermoforming and pressure-sensitive labels.
Ability to utilize measuring devices and techniques for material analysis, shipping, and testing simulations is crucial. The candidate should be adept at conducting packaging line trials, shipping/distribution testing, and ISTA/ASTM testing for both new and existing products. This includes scheduling and executing experimental trials while documenting procedures and outcomes.
Collaboration is key; the successful candidate will work cross-functionally with procurement, technology, supply chain, and product stewardship teams to define and validate new packaging types, ensuring successful product launches.
Providing technical support to maintenance and production teams is essential, including participation in troubleshooting and structured problem-solving initiatives aimed at minimizing equipment downtime and enhancing continuous improvement projects.
Conducting value analysis to identify and implement packaging material and structural modifications for improved production efficiency is expected. The role also involves working closely with Manufacturing Operations and Process Engineers to establish standardized work instructions and equipment risk profiles.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, testing, and evaluation of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging systems to ensure design compatibility and efficient distribution.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Quality Assurance, Product Development, and Manufacturing to establish procedures for qualifying new packaging designs, focusing on product compatibility, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Gather and apply feedback from both internal and external stakeholders to promptly address customer needs and anticipate future expectations.
- Engage with various departments to optimize package design and equipment requirements.
- Support packaging automation equipment setup, troubleshooting, and training, with experience in stacker/bagger and case packer programming being a plus.
Prototyping packaging and models using suitable materials is part of the role, along with maintaining documentation for specifications that support packaging processes and facilitate change management.
Identifying materials for packaging components and assisting in the development of Bills of Materials and cost analyses are also key tasks. The role includes initiating cost reduction projects and exploring opportunities for packaging redesign and production efficiencies.
Participation in professional activities to enhance expertise and stay updated on emerging trends in packaging technologies and regulatory requirements is encouraged.
