Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Construction Inspector to join our South Carolina Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) team. This individual will be responsible for inspecting earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, and/or structures to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction inspection, excellent mathematical skills, and the ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect earthwork, storm drainage, asphalt pavement, concrete pavement, and/or structures to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Perform material sampling and testing, calculations, and computations.
  • Prepare or review reports, and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections as required.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction inspection for transportation projects.
  • Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and explain construction plans, contract provisions, and specifications.
  • Ability to take notes and prepare or review reports.
  • Good communicative ability and the ability to instruct other employees in proper work methods.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction inspection for transportation projects.
  • Local candidates are preferred.
  • SCDOT certifications, other DOT certifications, or the ability to obtain them is preferred.
