We are seeking a highly skilled Power Grid Engineer to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a Power Grid Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting research in power system modeling and simulation, analysis, planning, operation, resilience, lab testing of devices and integrated systems, and field pilots.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct research in power system modeling and simulation, analysis, planning, operation, resilience, microgrids, lab testing of devices and integrated systems, and field pilots using standard technical principles, concepts, and techniques.
- Present formal and informal overviews of research progress at group meetings.
- Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Contribute to grant proposals and collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Knowledge of at least one power grid simulation software, such as GridLab-D, CYMDIST, OpenDSS, PowerWorld, PSLF, PSS/E.
- Knowledge or experience developing software in languages such as Python, C++, Matlab/Simulink for prototyping power grid algorithms and visualization.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to independently craft solutions to problems using fundamental knowledge and adhering to defined practices and procedures.
- Sufficient verbal and written communication skills needed to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical information, and document work.
- PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge and broad experience in the application and development in the topics of power system modeling and simulation, analysis, planning, operation, resilience, lab testing of devices and integrated systems, and field pilots.
- Problem-solving skills that involve creative solutions and innovative methods.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
