Electrical Engineer Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Electrical Engineer to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).

Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing electrical systems for various building projects, including power distribution, lighting, and grounding. They will work closely with our team to ensure that all designs meet the highest standards for safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop detailed technical drawings, specifications, and calculations for electrical systems.
  • Review designs prepared by subcontracted engineers for code compliance and constructability.
  • Determine functional electrical requirements for new or modified specialized equipment and support systems.
  • Perform electrical engineering calculations for short-circuit analysis of facility power distribution systems and arc flash safety analysis.
  • Represent the Project Management Organization in providing solutions to a diverse range of moderate to complex facility electrical technical issues and/or problems.
  • Lead multiple complex electrical projects, managing technical criteria, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Provide engineering support during construction by reviewing submittals and shop drawings, responding to contractor questions, evaluating change order requests, resolving field problems, and performing inspections.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Professional registration as an Electrical Engineer.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in design work with the application of electrical power distribution system components.
  • Experience preparing electrical one-line diagrams, load studies, branch and short-circuit analysis, arc flash calculations, electrical building layouts, area classification drawings, and size relative electrical equipment.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills to collaborate in a team environment and present technical information to project managers and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) and the Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA 70E).
  • Experience using SKM Power Tools and Agi32 for lighting studies and design.
