Overview of the Senior Automation Engineer Role

The main objective of this position is to enhance the efficiency and productivity of our chemical production operations through the advancement of both existing and new control systems. You will be responsible for designing and implementing well-engineered solutions to optimize plant operations, focusing on increased efficiency and operational uptime. This role requires collaboration across multiple sites, necessitating the establishment of strong relationships with company executives, colleagues, and site managers to drive improvement initiatives effectively.

Your responsibilities will involve working closely with reliability, maintenance, and safety-critical tasks, as well as managing documentation processes to ensure that business objectives are achieved. It is essential for the incumbent to actively engage in risk assessments and produce technical documentation, including datasheets and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership:

· Collaborate with operational facilities to deliver control system expertise across site activities.

· Ensure knowledge transfer from each operating site is integrated into engineering, fabrication, and operational standards.

· Proactively address process issues and lead problem-solving initiatives, providing technical support to various departments.

· Mentor and guide site engineers.

Controls & Process Management:

· Develop and maintain a robust process control program to ensure high reliability of Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems.

· Serve as a Technical Authority to uphold asset integrity and compliance with industry regulations and company standards.

· Establish processes for monitoring the effectiveness of Process Control and Safety Systems.

· Identify opportunities for cost reduction and defect elimination on a routine basis.

· Oversee the lifecycle management of Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems.

· Define spare parts requirements for maintenance and assist in their procurement.

· Create and implement training programs on engineering standards and practices for employees.

· Review and develop new designs and installations in accordance with corporate standards.

· Provide high-quality technical guidance to operational and maintenance teams to ensure reliability and integrity.

· Facilitate changes to Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems to enhance safety and reduce maintenance costs.

· Support troubleshooting and failure investigations using root cause analysis methodologies.

· Develop scopes of work for major turnarounds and assist in their execution.

· Maintain up-to-date documentation, calculations, software configurations, and data for Process Control and Safety Instrumented Systems.

· Contribute to the development and maintenance of cybersecurity measures for these systems.

· Assist in preparing the annual operating budget and manage expenditures effectively.

· Act as the primary contact for maintenance contracts with system vendors.

Environmental Health and Safety Commitment:

· Actively promote and engage in continuous improvement initiatives related to safety culture.

· Demonstrate a strong commitment to EHS initiatives by identifying opportunities for enhancement in process safety and environmental targets.

· Play a leadership role in successful safety and environmental improvement projects.

· Ensure effective hazard identification and risk management processes are implemented.

Qualifications & Skills

· At least 8 years of experience as a Senior Control Systems Engineer in a chemical manufacturing environment.

· Proficient in Process Automation and Safety Instrumented Systems, with a solid understanding of measuring methods and field instruments.

· Preferred experience with Yokogawa or Emerson's DeltaV DCS systems.

· Familiarity with PLC systems, including Honeywell and Rockwell.

· Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to provide timely technical advice to stakeholders.

Education:

· Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
