About the Position

The Davenport Community Schools are seeking a highly skilled Nutrition Educator to join our team.

Job Summary

We are looking for a qualified individual to teach nutrition education classes to Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd-grade students, as well as participate in Pick a Better Snack programs outside the classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach monthly nutrition education classes, including a physical activity, in assigned Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd-grade classrooms using Pick a Better Snack lessons.
  • Participate in Pick a Better Snack programs outside the classroom setting as assigned.
  • Use food safety practices when preparing food for classroom tastings.
  • Fulfill necessary requirements for paperwork, data collection, and monitoring as needed.
  • Participate in program evaluations as assigned.
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills with students, parents, and staff.
  • Attend yearly INN grant training meeting.
Requirements
  • Must be knowledgeable and trained in nutrition and/or dietetics, health education, public health, or elementary education.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students to ensure each child reaches his/her full potential.
  • Good attendance and punctuality are a must to ensure that the duties and responsibilities of the job are performed successfully.
  • Must be willing to support and implement Davenport's multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for both behavior and academics.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather.
  • Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
Work Environment
  • Noise level is quiet to loud.
  • Work may be indoors and/or outdoors.
  • Work may be in non-air-conditioned rooms.
  • Substance-free environment.
  • Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition and/or dietetics, health education, public health, or elementary education.
  • Teaching experience in group setting with elementary age children preferred.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills while collaborating with grant project manager, classroom teachers, and other school staff.
