Job Title: News Operations Manager

CBS Detroit (WWJ-TV) and Detroit50 (WKBD-TV), the CBS News and Stations owned & operated in the #14 television market Detroit, is seeking a highly skilled News Operations Manager to lead our news team in both day-to-day operations and large-scale productions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage Video and Audio Quality: Oversee the daily video and audio quality of all news production work that appears on air for both TV stations.
  • Supervise Photojournalist Staff: Manage Photojournalist staff to ensure a high level of editorial and production uniformity.
  • Develop Staff Members: Build opportunities for the development and growth of staff members in a creative, collaborative environment.
  • Lead and Mentor Staff: Assist in evaluating, leading, and mentoring staff members to promote peak performance and efficiency.
  • Cultivate Team Culture: Cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, team-oriented culture.
  • Collaborate with Operations Team: Work closely with Operations Manager and station engineering technicians on all projects and newscasts.
  • Coordinate Logistics: Supervise logistics set-up for special event coverage such as elections, conventions, sports events, etc.
  • Ensure Event Planning: Ensure all special events are well-planned.
  • Communicate with Partners: Communicate with corporate partners, vendors and staff members about roles and responsibilities.
  • Manage Video Archive System: Ensure the accurate workflow for all the videos needed for the news programs over the course of the day as well as manage the video archive system.
  • Collaborate with News Management: Work closely with the News Management team to ensure compatibility of coverage and logistics.
  • Develop Strategies: Develop strategies for the improvement of existing systems and the implementation of future technologies.
Qualifications:
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to identify and schedule personnel work directives based on observed daily operation, items in need of repair, and assigned projects.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in large market news management experience preferred.
  • Collaboration Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of managers and staff with various levels of technical expertise and train staff.
  • Teamwork: Must have strong team-building skills and work well with the rest of the newsroom.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changes in work environment.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills.
