Job Summary
As a Medical Assistant in our Family Medicine practice, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care. Your responsibilities will include assisting the physician and/or Advanced Care Practitioner with patient care, patient intake, documentation, vaccine and medication administration, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with appointment scheduling and maintaining medical records.
- Pre-visit planning with the provider and care team.
- Follow established patient intake/rooming procedures.
- Administer medications, including injections, as directed by the provider.
- Take vital signs, height, and weight measurements.
- Assist with reviewing medication history and updating medication lists.
- Participate in electronic documentation of care at the direction of the provider.
- Perform waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
- Monitor inventory and stock medications, narcotics, and emergency medications/equipment.
Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent required. Recognized/certified as a CMA or RMA by one of the following National Organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National HealthCareer Association (NHA), National Healthcare Worker's Association (NHCWA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA).
Physical Requirements
Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Must speak, read, and write Basic English fluently. Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch. Manual finger dexterity.
Education, Experience, and Certifications
Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required. Must maintain current certification.
Protected Health Information
Will limit access to protected health information (PHI) to the information reasonably necessary to do the job. Will share information only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes.
Machines, Tools, and Equipment
Those required by the practice, including blood pressure manometer, stethoscope, thermometer, personal protective equipment, wheelchairs, and related clinical equipment.
