Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our team at Meriden Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in all district buildings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC equipment, including boilers, chillers, air handlers, rooftop units, pumps, and controls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC systems according to a scheduled program.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC problems.
  • Repair HVAC systems promptly and efficiently.
  • Replace parts as needed.
  • Clean and maintain ductwork and vents.
  • Balance air flow in HVAC systems.
  • Ensure that HVAC systems are operating safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor energy consumption of HVAC systems and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of HVAC system upgrades and retrofits.
  • Respond to emergency HVAC calls after hours as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of HVAC system maintenance and repairs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • S2 HVAC license.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Work Environment
  • Work is primarily performed in school buildings.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and fumes.
  • May work in confined spaces.

Salary: $33.56 (probationary period) / $35.52 (established rate)
