POSITION SUMMARY:

The role involves a commitment to delivering services that align with Quality / No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship objectives by showcasing leadership through the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with established professional nursing standards.

Nursing care is tailored to meet the diverse needs of individual patients based on various demographics.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Quality/No Harm:
1. Effectively manages and administers medications to patients, as demonstrated by clinical practice outcomes and preceptor observations.
2. Appropriately delegates and supervises patient care activities within the healthcare environment.
3. Communicates effectively with healthcare team members, fostering teamwork.
4. Monitors existing processes to enhance quality outcomes.
5. Identifies and addresses safety concerns and potential hazards following established policies and protocols.
6. Maintains low-risk behavior and supports Just Culture principles.
7. Actively engages in achieving departmental team goals.

Adheres to practice standards, care bundles, and best practices in delivering care to patients and their families.

9.

Exhibits critical thinking and sound judgment in nursing assessments, diagnoses, planning, interventions, and evaluations, adjusting care plans as necessary.


  • Utilizes Health First information systems efficiently to access care standards, document patient data, customize care plans, and communicate with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Completes annual competency assessments and age-specific checklists.
  • Demonstrates safe clinical practices as evidenced by observations, feedback, leader rounding, performance coaching, and patient outcomes.
  • Coordinates interdisciplinary rounds and care planning for optimal utilization, transitions of care, and safe patient disposition.
  • Serves as a supportive or instructive resource for nurse interns, students, and colleagues.
  • Exhibits dependability, reliability, and adaptability.
Stewardship:

  • Exhibits personal accountability in the economical use and care of equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrates a foundational understanding of LEAN principles and may participate in initiatives to minimize waste or enhance processes.
  • Applies staffing effectiveness principles and optimizes resources to meet dynamic patient care needs in real-time.
  • Contributes positively to unit productivity through effective planning, organization, and time management.
  • Identifies strategies to appropriately reduce length of stay and prevent readmissions.
  • Positively impacts the creation and maintenance of a healthy work environment and staff retention.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Education:
o Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
o Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma required.
o BSN is highly preferred.

  • Licensure:
o Current RN licensure or endorsement in the relevant state.

  • Certification:
o Must possess a current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to employment and maintain it.
o Must hold a current AHA ACLS certification prior to employment and maintain it.
o Additional certifications as required by the specific unit.

  • Experience:
o Must fulfill unit-specific care requirements.

  • Language:
o Proficiency in understanding and communicating written and verbal instructions in English.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must possess visual acuity and hand-eye coordination for clinical tasks.
  • Must have corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges.
  • Must be capable of lifting, turning, pulling, pushing, or assisting patients/equipment for a significant portion of the assigned shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted for a portion of the assigned shift.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for a majority of the assigned shift.
  • Potential exposure to biohazardous materials and known or unknown diseases.
MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to function in a high-stress environment with patients and families of varying ages and comprehension levels.
  • Ability to concentrate on multiple priority tasks.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to life-threatening situations.
  • Possesses critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
