Job Summary

The Langham is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Landscaping Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of our grounds and landscapes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze landscape development plans for accuracy, appropriateness, and compliance.
  • Organize and complete job task scheduling for team members.
  • Coordinate with in-house and 3rd party landscape teams to ensure work is completed and quality control measures are adhered to.
  • Communicate effectively with the landscape teams to ensure tasks and instructions are understood.
  • Ensure that landscape team members are completing tasks within reasonable and required time frames.
  • Manage and control the allocation of resources including staff, equipment, consumables, and chemicals with tracking sheets available.
  • Ensure that all chemicals have MSD Sheets available at hand.
  • Ensure footpaths and walkways are safe and in good condition.
  • Ensure boundary fences and surrounds are always neat and visible.
  • Ensure road maintenance on and around campus, including marking and signage, are maintained and legal requirements are complied with.
  • Manage the composting and recycling of organic and inorganic products.
  • Ensure that watering and irrigation systems are functioning correctly, managing boreholes, irrigation controller times and zones, as is appropriate for the hotel environment, and ensure that any subcontractors are fulfilling the roles that are required.
  • Ensure that all work performed is of a suitable and acceptable quality.
  • Work with subcontractors and their staff.
  • Communicate with management and staff effectively.
  • Effectively delegate tasks to team members.
  • Know and understand each team member's skills and strengths and develop them to that person's maximum potential.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the landscape teams to determine any problem areas and seek suggestions from the team.
  • Report and provide feedback daily to the Director of Engineering and/or Assistant Director of Engineering.
  • Evaluate the status of the gardens and surrounding areas on a continuous basis, and propose upgrades where necessary.
  • Evaluate and apply measures to check the safety of play and sports equipment as well as other external facilities.
  • Identify potential problem areas and take remedial steps.
  • Control expenses and costs of plants, equipment, and resources.
  • Able to prioritize important matters and act on them accordingly.
  • Able to resolve conflicts and manage grievances in the landscape team.
  • Assist with service-learning initiatives.
  • Work with the Sustainability Coordinator on techniques and strategies and develop long-term sustainability programs.
  • Take responsibility and accountability for all grounds and landscape areas.
  • All other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Engineering or the Assistant Director of Engineering.

  • Establish landscape, gardens, and ground maintenance service strategies.
  • Develop and establish effective landscape, gardens, and ground maintenance solutions inclusive of techniques and processes.
  • Implement an effective and quality management system.
  • Set formal and measurable performance targets and reporting strategies.
  • Set formal and measurable service level matrices, performance targets, and reporting strategies for contractors including an annual review of any Service Level Agreements.
  • Identify and manage corrective and enhancement actions.
  • Employ sound environmental, ecological, and waste management practices.
  • Plan and manage cost centers through Operations and Capex budgets and add capital value to the asset.
  • Create additional educational opportunities for Engineering team members.
  • Improve the aesthetic appeal of the surrounding environment to complement existing architecture and ensure longevity of the grounds.
Working Conditions

The employee is regularly required to walk for extended periods of time; use hand/finger dexterity, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Education and Experience
  • Horticulture degree is preferred and/or 8 years of related field experience with a focus on lawn care.
  • 1-2 years supervisory/management experience required.
  • 1-2 years' project management or related experience.
  • Previous landscape construction experience is advantageous.
  • Previous experience working in the hospitality sector advantageous.
  • Previous management experience within a multinational environment advantageous.
  • Knowledge of local applicable laws and practices required.
