Job Title: Transportation Engineer 5-Roadways

CDM Smith is seeking a highly skilled Transportation Engineer 5-Roadways to join our team in Detroit or Lansing, MI. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative transportation solutions that meet the needs of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish design criteria and create horizontal and vertical alignments for transportation projects.
  • Perform superelevation design and prepare comprehensive design calculations for roadway-related tasks.
  • Utilize production-level proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and MDOT OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Connect Edition to prepare detailed contract documents, including construction plans and proposal packages.
  • Develop effective traffic control plans to ensure the safety and efficiency of our transportation projects.
  • Prepare contract special provisions, cost estimates, and conduct field work to document condition assessments and existing conditions.
  • Implement our corporate Quality Assurance Plan to maintain the highest standards of excellence in all our projects.
  • Collaborate with our sales staff to create compelling proposals in response to client requests for proposals (RFPs).
  • Enhance the visibility of CDM Smith's products and services by attending conferences, symposia, and other industry events.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior staff, fostering their growth and development within the discipline and the firm.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license.
  • 7 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Production level proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and MDOT OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Connect Edition.
  • Experienced or good understanding of the Transportation Management Plan (TMP) based on the MDOT Workzone Safety and Mobility Manual.
  • Experience in Hydraulic Analysis and modeling for Bridges and Culverts, and Scour Analysis.
  • Experience in Drainage Study, Storm Sewer Design and Stormwater, and Best Management Practices (BMP's).
