Position Overview

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is responsible for delivering comprehensive healthcare services to assigned patients and communities, adhering to established scope of practice guidelines and specialty areas. This role encompasses conducting thorough health assessments, diagnosing conditions, and planning and prescribing treatments within the framework of medical staff privileges and expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee patient care within designated specialty areas, ensuring adherence to medical staff privileges.
  • Gather and analyze pertinent patient health histories and interpret relevant tests and records.
  • Conduct physical examinations and document findings accurately.
  • Execute various diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic procedures, as well as order necessary screenings and laboratory tests to inform diagnoses; interpret results effectively.
  • Prescribe and order suitable pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, formulating comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Develop educational strategies for patients and their families to enhance understanding and compliance.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling for upcoming procedures, collaborating with various services and ensuring completion of required documentation.
  • Facilitate appropriate consultations and referrals as needed.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans, documenting interventions and patient outcomes meticulously.
  • Reassess and adjust treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team, within the limits of medical staff privileges.
  • Engage in the educational development of nursing students, medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals through active participation in case discussions, mentorship, and curriculum development.
  • Maintain a faculty appointment to secure clinical privileges for practice within the healthcare system.
  • Perform additional related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice.
  • Graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse program.
  • Current licensure as a Professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with pediatric hematology/oncology patients and their families.
  • Familiarity with chemotherapy protocols and Children's Oncology Group guidelines.
  • Proficiency in EPIC electronic health record systems.
  • Experience in clinical research trials.
  • Knowledge of sickle cell pain management.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
