Job Summary

The State of Connecticut is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Seasonal Environmental Monitoring Specialist. In this role, you will assist in conducting water quality sampling at various locations across the state.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct water quality sampling at state park beaches, lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams
  • Field collection of fish and macro-invertebrate samples
  • Water temperature probe deployment
  • Laboratory preparation of samples
  • Use and calibration of water quality monitoring instruments
  • Data quality assurance and entry
  • Literature searches
  • Data analysis
  • Maintenance and cleanup of the laboratory, instruments, equipment, vehicles, and boats
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Experience with and/or coursework in water quality monitoring, aquatic biology, limnology, ecology, microbiology, entomology, and/or environmental science
  • Mechanical experience
  • Experience working from a personal computer
  • Experience with boating
  • Experience utilizing GIS
  • Experience operating R or Python programming languages

Working Conditions

  • Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class
  • Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills
