Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Emergent Bilingual Support Specialist to join our team at Western Heights School Dist 41. The successful candidate will provide critical support to our Emergent Bilingual (EB) program, working closely with teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure the academic success of our English Language Learner (ELL) students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Parent Communication: Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents of EB students, facilitating regular communication and ensuring parents are informed about their child's progress.
  • Classroom Support: Assist classroom teachers with daily lessons, including translating documents, lesson planning, and accommodating the needs of EB students.
  • State Testing: Monitor and support students during state testing, ensuring a smooth and efficient process under the supervision of the school counselor.
  • EB Classroom Support: Provide critical support to the EB teacher, including lesson planning, teaching, translating, and assisting with behavior and attendance issues.
  • Professional Development: Collaborate with the EB teacher to maintain a positive cultural learning environment, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion among staff and students.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience: Previous work or volunteer experience with children, teenagers, and/or clerical experience preferred
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in a team environment, and a strong commitment to supporting the academic success of ELL students
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent bending/stooping, occasional lifting up to 45 pounds, and the ability to operate keyboards, computers, and other office/instructional machines. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff, and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
