Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Licensed Practical Nurse 4 to join our team at the WA State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, WA.

Job Responsibilities
  • Administer medication as prescribed by a licensed physician.
  • Use tools, techniques, and physical and cognitive skills and abilities to practice nursing safety and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code.
  • Provide competent patient care, including assessing patients' physical and emotional needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and evaluating the effectiveness of care.
  • Self-evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct at all times, adhering to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism.
  • Delegate and assign tasks to other staff as appropriate, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide effective communication and documentation, including maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient care and communicating with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals as needed.
Requirements
  • Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Practical Nurse or an unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact Licensure State as outlined by the Nurse Licensure Compact and Department of Health.
  • Completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey.
  • Two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Proficient using computer-based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working as a nurse in an acute care setting or a correctional facility.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
