Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic 4-HVAC

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Mechanic 4-HVAC to join our team at the Washington State Penitentiary. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, as well as other mechanical equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct, supervise, train, instruct, and work with a crew of incarcerated individuals in the performance of skilled electrical and mechanical work, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repair of HVAC systems, automated building control systems, appliances, refrigeration systems, ice machines, hydronic systems, and all associated equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for tool control, incarcerated individuals supervisory files, safety compliance, work orders, material use, and requisition, along with all required records keeping.
  • Initiate requests for materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Computer use for daily operations.
  • Estimates, plans, and coordinates resources needed to complete projects and routine work.
  • Consults with chain of command and vendors on department needs.
  • Prepare reports, performance evaluations for incarcerated individuals, and other duties specified by the Plant Manager 3.
  • Duties may require lifting equipment up to 50lbs.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Possess a valid Washington State Electrical License EL06A or EL01.
  • Possess an EPA type 2 or Universal Refrigerant Card.
Preferred/Desired:
  • Journeyman level HVAC/R, or two (2) years certified HVAC school plus two (2) years service experience, or four (4) years journeyman level service experience.
  • Operate motor vehicles, machinery, and construction equipment.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and other equipment.
  • Perform welding and metal fabrication.
  • Knowledge of small appliance troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools and tool repair.
  • Knowledge of security practices as they relate to tool control.
  • Effective communication skills.
